Izanenael's Explosive Flame Shield grants temporary protection against fire. When the spell absorbs 12 points per caster level of fire damage (to a maximum of 144 points at 12th level), it is discharged.

While the spell is in effect, any creature striking you with in melee with its body or a handheld weapon deals normal damage, but at the same time the attacker takes 1d6 points of fire damage +1 point of fire per caster level (maximum +15). If the attacker has spell resistance, it applies to this effect. Creatures wielding reach weapons are not subject to this damage if they attack you.

When struck in melee, as an immediate action, the caster may choose to have the shield explode toward the attacker instead of inflicting its fire damage. This explosion inflicts 3d6+1/level (max +15) fire damage to the target and causes the spell to initiate a bull rush against the target as a Large creature with a +8 bonus, for a total bonus of +12. The caster cannot choose to shorten the bull rush's push distance. Using the shield in this manner discharges the spell.
