It is the year 2423. The destruction of the Romulan system has left one of the Federation's oldest enemies in disarray and pleading with Starfleet for protection. In the wake of the destructive Dominion War, the Breen have retreated to antagonizing the First Federation, leaving the Tzenkethi free to prey on Cardassian territories. Klingon ambitions in that region, and in Romulan space, have led to the rupture of the Khitomer Accords, as the Federation desperately attempts to preserve peace in the Alpha Quadrant. But the Klingons' push against its powerful foes has provoked aggression from an unexpected quadrant, for two long-quiet powers on the Federation's distant border have been gathering their strength, and with Birds-of-Prey cutting the Federation neatly in two in their haste to reach Cardassia, they can now mobilize against the remnants of Starfleet, separated from Core worlds. The Tholians spread slowly but surely, while the Gorn lash out at Federation and Klingon alike. With ripe territories awaiting and enemies drawing nearer, the Klingons have made a decisive preemptive strike towards the heart of the Federation, occupying Deneva and the valuable - and historically contested - Tellun system, leaving a line of detente bordering Risa and casting a martial pall over the pleasure planet. Starfleet is at its limits. Two dubious powers as protectorates, enemies old and new pushing back at the Federation's borders, and isolated from any form of aid, they require a new flagship: the prototype of the USS Foundation, a new class of ship to negotiate, peacekeep and battle at the front. This vessel and its new technologies are being developed close to home, at Utopia Planitia, and its command crew vetted, confirmed and guarded across the Core worlds of the Federation. Though spies, saboteurs and assassins are a very real concern, the Federation understands the need to play this close to the chest, pulling all resources into the center to complete the Foundation, their last hope. Meanwhile, in the Beta Quadrant, the rift created by the destruction of Romulus has formed a corridor through which Federation vessels have been authorized to fly for the first time, passing beyond the formidable twin barriers of the Romulan and Klingon Empires to truly enter the Beta Quadrant for the first time. The crew of the USS ''Discovery'' have been assigned, along with three other ships containing nonessential personnel, to a two-year exploratory mission in the region deep beyond the far borders of Klingon and Romulan space. However, all is not as it seems, for deep within the Beta Quadrant, beyond the borders of the Romulan Star Empire, lies a concealed starbase where the second Foundation-class vessel - a vastly different and greatly improved design - is being constructed: the true flagship, whose command staff are concealed on the four minor science vessels that protect the secret development. ==Main Cast== ===Alan Price=== '''Rank:''' Commander •••
'''Department:''' Command
'''Assignment:''' Executive officer, USS ''Discovery''; first officer
'''Race:''' Human (American)
'''Gender:''' Male
===Erica Winter, MD=== '''Rank:''' Master Commander •••○
'''Department:''' Science
'''Assignment:''' Chief medical officer, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Human (South African)
'''Gender:''' Female
===Laral=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant ••
'''Department:''' Operations
'''Assignment:''' Second engineer, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Pholon (Yellow-shifted Green)
'''Gender:''' Neuter-identified male
===Shen=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant Commander ••○
'''Department:''' Operations
'''Assignment:''' Chief tactical officer, USS ''Discovery''; second officer
'''Race:''' Andorian
'''Gender:''' Male (Thaan)
===Christine Bauer=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant Commander ••○
'''Department:''' Operations
'''Assignment:''' Chief operations officer, USS ''Discovery''; third officer
'''Race:''' Human
'''Gender:''' Female
===Nedar Viran=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant ••
'''Department:''' Sciences
'''Assignment:''' Ship's counselor, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Mendean
'''Gender:''' Male
===Iridi Zenn=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant junior grade •○
'''Department:''' Sciences
'''Assignment:''' Science officer, chief of biosciences, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Bolian/Deltan hybrid
'''Gender:''' Female
===Sofia Milani=== '''Rank:''' Ensign •
'''Department:''' Command
'''Assignment:''' Junior flight controller, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Human (Italian)
'''Gender:''' Female
==Supporting Cast== ===Michael Bradley=== '''Rank:''' Captain ••••
'''Department:''' Command
'''Assignment:''' Commanding officer, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Human (English)
'''Gender:''' Male
===Sakar Vorel=== '''Rank:''' Gul
'''Order:''' Fifth Order '''Assignment:''' Commanding officer, Cardassian flagship ''Am'Pretar''
'''Race:''' Cardassian
'''Gender:''' Male
===Science Officer=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant Commander ••○
'''Department:''' Science
'''Assignment:''' Chief science officer, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' ?
'''Gender:''' ?
===Quartermaster=== '''Rank:''' Senior Chief Petty Officer >>>
'''Department:''' Operations
'''Assignment:''' Quartermaster and cargo chief, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' Ferengi?
'''Gender:''' ?
===Chaplain=== '''Rank:''' Civilian
'''Department:''' Services
'''Assignment:''' Chaplain, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' ?
'''Gender:''' ?
===Stellar Cartographer=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant
'''Department:''' Science
'''Assignment:''' Head Stellar Cartographer, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' ?
'''Gender:''' ?
===Nav/Conn=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant
'''Department:''' Command
'''Assignment:''' Flight controller, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' ?
'''Gender:''' ?
===Mission Ops Officer=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant ••
'''Department:''' Command
'''Assignment:''' Mission operations coordinator, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' ?
'''Gender:''' ?
===Security=== '''Rank:''' Lieutenant
'''Department:''' Operations
'''Assignment:''' Chief security officer, USS ''Discovery''
'''Race:''' ?
'''Gender:''' ?
==Races== ===Eleusians=== '''Homeworld: Eleusene''' ''Beta''
'''Loyalty: Eleusian Concord''' Partially kinetic telepaths, Eleusians have quickly become infamous for always having the upper hand. Their selection of unorthodox tactics combined with a massive information advantage make them canny and destabilizing encounters. Having spied on Alpha Quadrant affairs for the past century via the Romulans, they feel quite confident about future dealings with the Federation. ===Kriid=== '''Homeworld: Unknown''' ''Beta''
'''Loyalty: Kriid Isolation''' Able to fell a Nausicaan, a Klingon and a Jem'Hadar in single combat, with weaponry to make the Dominion, Breen and Romulans weep, the Kriid are a deadly and fierce unknown from deep within the Beta Quadrant, where even their neighbors speak of them with great fear. The great black ships destroy anything they encounter with extreme prejudice, and have never been spoken with nor traded with by any other culture. Information gathered by Starfleet Intelligence suggests that the Borg are aware of the Kriid and consciously choose to avoid assimilating them due to an incompatibility. ===Mendeans=== '''Homeworld: Mendes IV''' ''Beta''
'''Loyalty: Federation''' Low-level non-telepathic psions, Mendeans are most notable for their mild chameleonic abilities and their powers as sympaths - able to read and share intuition and instinct, feeling motive and mood. Mendeans are thus very social and tend to be quite charming; those who hone their psionic abilities even moreso. The Mendeans are the second Beta Quadrant race from beyond the Gate to join the Federation since the Romulan alliance. ===Pholons=== '''Homeworld: Pholos I, Pholos II and Pholos III''' ''Beta''
'''Loyalty: Pholon Triune''' A powerful antehumanoid race, whose emotional spectrum is tied to their radiation and electrostatic emission spectra. Though in their wild childhoods Pholons are Red and are associated with dangerous discharges, they shift to Yellow and master the separation of desires, needs and methods rather rapidly, forming the framework of their Green personality, which aims to let Pholon reason complete and control all, in preparation for the elite Blue state. The Pholon Triune is currently facing a difficult internal debate on the subject of Federation alliance and membership. ==USS ''Discovery'' (NCC-56153)== ===Crew Complement=== • '''Total Crew Complement:''' 324
189 Humans, 25 Vulcans, 13 Napeans, 12 Ithenites, 11 Tellarites, 9 Selay, 8 Bajorans, 7 Andorians, 7 Betazoids, 6 Trill (unjoined), 5 Bolians, 5 Caitians, 4 Benzites, 3 Mendeans, 3 Cairn, 2 Denobulans, 2 Ktarians, 2 Xelatians, 1 Deltan, 1 Efrosian, 1 Ferengi, 1 Pholon, 1 Romulan, 1 Trill (joined), 1 Zakdorn, 4 humanoid hybrids (1 Betazoid/Vulcan, 1 Bolian/Deltan, 1 Human/Trill, 1 Romulan/Vulcan) • '''Officer Contingent:''' 129
1 Captain, 1 Master Commander, 1 Commander, 6 Lieutenant Commanders, 27 Lieutenants, 38 Lieutenants (jr. grade), 55 Ensigns. 23 officers assigned to the Command division, 48 to Sciences and 50 to Operations, with eight ensigns on departmental rotation. • '''Enlisted Contingent:''' 195
1 MCPO, 3 SCPOs, 7 CPOs, 17 1st-class petty officers, 29 2nd-class petty officers, 38 3rd-class petty officers, 45 crewmen 1st-class, 33 crewmen 2nd-class, 22 crewmen 3rd-class. 16 enlisted personnel assigned to the Command division, 52 to Sciences and 105 to Operations, with 22 crewmen 3rd-class on departmental rotation. • '''Civilian Presence:''' 15
5 mess service staff, 4 Federation scientists, 2 diplomatic observers, 2 personal groomers, 1 chaplain, 1 Federation affairs representative. ==Space Locations== ===The Gate=== The colloquial term for the relatively safe and empty spatial corridor which exists where the Romulan system once was. Though there is a singularity of some considerable power at the center, the Gate is wide enough that it poses little threat. Certain systems and forms of weaponry do not work within the Gate's region, however, due to the subspace interference put out by the singularity. ===Ostium Latet=== Located approximately 180 light years beyond the Gate and roughly 150 years past the most proximate pre-Gate Federation world (Zakdorn) and Starbase (153), Ostium Latet is the space station where Starfleet's true flagship is being developed. Though not without suitable defensive capabilities, most of its resources must be devoted to fleet construction and development; as such, extra staff are housed on four upgraded science vessels which patrol the area and gather necessary supplies from nearby worlds. The Horizon-class vessels ''Discovery'' and ''Kirk,'' as well as the Cartier-class ''Labrador'' and the Vista-class ''Orient,'' serve as the primary defense and logistics lines for Ostium Latet. The ''Discovery'' and ''Orient'' carry staff and science officers, while the intended captain of the flagship is located with flight, medical and security staff on the ''Kirk'' and operations, tactical and diplomatic personnel are trained and housed on the ''Labrador.''
