There are now nine schools of magic. The ninth school is called medical magic. Medical magic deals with healing or altering the body’s anatomy or physiology, and may actually root in ancient necromancy. A wizard who specializes in medical magic is called a healer. Abjuration magic is used mainly to defend the Elven lands from the fiends, protect workers from particularly hazardous conditions, and keep certain people out of certain areas. Modern abjurers tend to be focused on fighting the wars, while less specialized users are usually called upon to contain energy or bolster the local militia. One of the most important modern applications of abjuration is Dimensional Anchor, as it is the only thing keeping the fiends out of the cities. Conjuration magic is used to summon power sources, as well as bringing certain extraplanar allies into the field of battle. Modern conjurers no longer heal injuries as they had in the past, but they are still capable of resurrection. Conjurers tend to either summon massive power sources for the Elven cities or send units into battle. Many other modern conjurers ferry people across fiend-infested lands using Teleport spells. Other more maligned users may find themselves willingly summoning fiends in order to expand their conquest of the world, or merely to strengthen their own power. In these times, divination is used for many things, from predicting the fiends’ next target, to monitoring their movements, to communications. Diviners that battle the fiends tend to carry these functions out extensively, though many other users may utilize their magics in these ways as well. Enchantment magic, like necromancy, is now forbidden, as it is capable of influencing or even dictating allies without their knowledge. Many enclaves exist, however, despite common opinions. Some users use enchantment for interrogation, even under a government sanction at times, while others may attempt to sway the minds of worldly leaders (unbeknownst even to their own leaders). Modern enchanters are a secretive order… Evocation is smiled upon greatly, as it both creates power sources for the cities and obliterates the fiends. Especially powerful users may even learn to manipulate specially designed war machines with their mighty energy. Illusions are seeing far less use than they have in the past, though now they are quite often used to mislead the fiend armies. Such uses are extremely effective against the demons, who rarely pause to check their damage. Modern necromancy is forbidden, even to the point of a death sentence. Deep within unpopulated lands, there are enclaves filled with necromancers. Fiends attacking the necromancers often find themselves knee-deep in immensely powerful magic, much of which isn’t even necromancy to begin with. It is… Unwise to underestimate the necromancers. Transmutation is used quite a bit in the war, and taught in nearly all walks of a magician’s life. Modern transmuters often produce vehicle parts, even entire vehicles in certain cases. Medical magic is made of a wide range of body-affecting spells, from healing magic, to body modification, to even cloning and instantaneous regeneration. Healers can find work anywhere where there are injuries, from maintenance work to the war. There are hushed rumors that modern medical magic has some rooting in ancient necromancy. Of course, any professional healer will fiercely dispute such a thought…
