Take this class's concept, and make it not break various systems. http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Sage_(3.5e_Prestige_Class) This class is contextualized to [[Dark Side of the Sun]], which uses a merged skill list. To use this class in standard 3.5, split the relevant Skill Focus feats into Skill Focus feats for the component skills, then cut the list down as your DM feels appropriate. == Concept == Large urban environments of various sorts often feature libraries - often some of the largest stores of all manner of knowledge in the world. When libraries are large enough, they often require dedicated staff to help maintain and grow the collections. These libraries often hire a small number of Librarium Curators - people of exceptional intelligence who have learned many skills. (Alternatively, someone may ''start'' their own library, and once it has reached a certain scale, become the Curator for their library.) In spite of the name, some Librarium Curators are also hired for Museums. Librarium Curators are, more than anything, the ultimate gatherers of knowledge and skill, able to build up understanding in all manner of areas, and developing talents that allow them to gather knowledge for their library - becoming a jack in all too many trades in the process. Most Librarium Curators are either Rogues or (high level) Wizards, both classes that put great emphasis on acquired knowledge and skill. == Requirements == 8 ranks in at least 4 skills and at least 4 ranks in 10 more. Able Learner feat. ''Special'': Must either own, or be hired as a curator for, a library, museum, or similar place suited to gathering large collections of objects of knowledge. {|border=1px !Level !!Base Attack Bonus !!Fort Save !!Ref Save !!Will Save !!Special |- |'''1st''' || +0 || +0 || +2 || +2 || Librarium's Funding, Librarian's Miscellany, Librarium's Data (Tactics), Secret |- |'''2nd''' || +1 || +0 || +3 || +3 || Advanced Study, Librarium's Data (2/day) |- |'''3rd''' || +1 || +1 || +3 || +3 || Secret, Librarium's Data (Openings) |- |'''4th''' || +2 || +1 || +4 || +4 || Advanced Study, Librarium's Data (3/day) |- |'''5th''' || +2 || +1 || +4 || +4 || Secret, Librarium's Data (Vulnerabilities) |- |'''6th''' || +3 || +2 || +5 || +5 || Advanced Study, Librarium's Data (4/day) |- |'''7th''' || +3 || +2 || +5 || +5 || Secret, Librarium's Data (Attack Patterns) |- |'''8th''' || +4 || +2 || +6 || +6 || Advanced Study, Librarium's Data (5/day) |- |'''9th''' || +4 || +3 || +6 || +6 || Secret, Librarium's Data (Fears) |- |'''10th''' || +5 || +3 || +7 || +7 || Advanced Study, Librarium's Data (6/day), Sacred Hall |} '''Class Skills:''' Much like the Factotum, the Librarium Curator can treat any skill as a Class Skill. :'''Skill Points:''' 8 + INT per level :'''Hit Die:''' d4 == Abilities == '''Librarium's Funding''': The Librarium Curator has access to special library funds for the purposes of acquiring artwork, books (magical or otherwise), or other items of value to his library from his party or self. Essentially, any time he can reach his library, he can trade such items (DM's discretion) for standard currency at their standard value (also DM's discretion). Once items have been added to the library's collections, they can be referenced, but not bought back. (The DM should generally not allow items that can only be used to effect once to be bought in this fashion; if the item would have a small amount of value in spite of being used up, he might allow for that.) '''Librarian's Miscellany''': Any librarian worth their rubber stamp has read a ''lot'' of books and picked up a lot of random knowledge. This ability works identically to Bardic Knowledge; if the user already has Bardic Knowledge, their Librarium Curator levels stack with their Bard Levels for the purposes of Bardic Knowledge checks. '''Secrets:''' At 1st level and every two levels higher than 1st (3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th), the Sage chooses one secret from the table below. The character's Sage level plus Intelligence modifier determines which secrets can be learned. He/she can’t choose the same secret twice. Note that this is identical to the Loremaster ability; for a character with both classes, Sage and Loremaster levels stack for the purposes of determining the number of Secrets they may have. '''Advanced Study:''' At 2nd level and every two levels afterward (4th, 6th, etc.), the Librarium Curator finishes an Advanced Study based on skills they have acquired. They may choose one Advanced Study that they meet the requirements for, gaining a group of related Skill Focus feats (and occasionally another benefit besides). If a character already has any Skill Focus feat they would acquire through an Advanced Study, they may retrain the old feat immediately (as per the normal retraining rules), unless they acquired the feat from another Advanced Study. A user may choose an Advanced Study they do not yet qualify for; if they do so, they do not gain the benefits of that Advanced Study until they have taken enough ranks in the relevant skill, and ''must'' put as many skill points as possible into the skill during level-up. '''Sacred Hall''': At 10th level, a Librarium Curator attains a supernatural tie to the knowledge stored within their library, able to protect it from any force that would destroy it. While the Curator is alive and on the same plane as the library, nothing short of divine intervention can damage the library building or the objects of knowledge held in its collection. Items that are ''not'' part of its collection, and people within, are not so protected. '''Librarium's Data''': A Librarium Curator knows monsters as he knows many other items of study, understanding weaknesses that he can communicate to a party. The ability works somewhat similarly to an Archivist's Dark Knowledge, but with different specifics; neither can be used as supply for the other. :The Librarium Curator declares which Librarium's Data ability they are using, then makes a Knowledge check of a type apppropriate to the creature (DM's discretion, but usually Arcana relates to magical beasts, Dungeoneering to Abberrations, Religion to Undead, and The Planes to Outsiders and Elementals - adjudicate other types as you see fit). Doing so is a swift action, and doubles as a standard knowledge check for the creature, possibly revealing other information. The DC of the check is 15 - however, many Librarium's Data abilities benefit from attaining significantly higher results. Only one Librarium's Data ability may be used on any one creature per encounter. Effects normally last for one minute. :''Tactics'': Grants a +1 bonus to attack rolls against monsters of the target race. If the Librarium Curator beats the check DC by 10, increase the bonus to +2; if they beat it by 20, increase the bonus to +3. :''Openings'': Earned at 3rd level. Grants a +1 bonus to damage rolls against monsters of the target race. For every 5 that the Librarium Curator beats the check DC by, increase the damage bonus by +1. :''Vulnerabilities'': Earned at 5th level. Grants +1d6 damage against one target monster. If the Librarium Curator beats the check DC by 10, increase the damage bonus to +2d6; if they beat it by 20, increase the bonus to 3d6. :''Attack Patterns'': Earned at 7th level. Grants +1 AC against attacks made by monsters of the target race. If the Librarium Curator beats the check DC by 10, increase the bonus to +2; if they beat it by 20, increase the bonus to +3. :''Fears'': Earned at 9th level. Grants allies the ability to force a target to flee or cower. The Librarium Curator must beat the check DC by 10; forcing a target to flee or cower is then a standard action that requires an Intimidate check at DC 20. The target is compelled to flee or cower until the start of the Intimidating creature's next turn. == Advanced Studies == '''Archaeology''': Requires 8 ranks in Knowledge (history).
