=Active Factions= ==Unearthers== The Unearthers, or the Circle of Ten as they are known internally, are a small group of spellcasters dedicated to preserving and restoring knowledge lost after the fall of the great empires. Some of their numbers have come to the fallen Golem, ostensibly to study it and find some way to stop the others. Their command structure is very loose, with each member acting mostly autonomously, communicating largely through a personalized ring that each member carries. Admission to the Circle of Ten is contingent upon approval by nine of the Circle's members, though currently only eight are alive.<br> Initially, the party was attacked by nine mages that looked like the then-living members of the Circle. It has since been proven that this was a ruse by an unknown third party, for unknown purposes. All that is known about these imposters is that they contract with devils. ===Willem=== Willem was the Third Mage of the Circle, specialized in divination magic. He is missing, and his ring was in Ludvig's possession before being given to the party. ===Ottomar=== Ottomar was the Seventh Mage of the Circle, specialized in evocation spells. He was slain by the party after they dispelled his Magnificent Mansion. Joachim later revealed that he and Donovan had fought Ottomar disguised as the party, and killed him several times before, so it remains a mystery whether or not Ottomar is actually dead. His ring was returned to Matheus by the party. ===Maxwell=== Maxwell is the Ninth Mage of the Circle, specializing in summoning magic, one of the forgotten arts. He and the party parted on amiable terms after a short skirmish and he is presumably still in the area of the camp. ===Matheus=== Matheus is the Royal Prince of Heizel and Fifth Mage of the Circle. Though the extent of his powers is yet unknown, he has shown an uncanny ability to stay alive after suffering extensive injuries. He is currently travelling with the party, having hired them to accompany him on his own mission. An adventurous sort, Matheus does not hide his disdain for courtly life. ====Taves==== Councillor Taves is the personal adviser of Matheus, and serves him due to his royal credentials rather than due to his Circle affiliation. He has some skill with curative magics and magically enhanced technology, as evidenced by his sensor device that can pinpoint the locations of nearby golems. ====Lancaster==== Commander Lancaster is one of Matheus' companions, presumably a member of the Heizel armed forces. He is cursed to transform into a rabid, enormous weasel with no rhyme or reason, and is being taken to be suspended in time until a cure can be devised. ==The Long Knives of Faradan== The Knives, under the command of Sigismund, are the single remaining vestige of the Bas-Karakat armed forces. Originally an assassin organization created to destroy the enemy's golem engineers and researchers, the Knives were gathered their members exclusively from subjects infected with a strain of the Feral curse. Now they work to destroy all things that led to the Golem disaster, including the now-lost arts that many Unearthers try to preserve. ===Sigismund=== Sigismund is a powerful vampire who has fought the war for 3000 years after both empires involved have fallen. He has bolstered the membership of the Knives with vampires created by him. Now that it is known that Golems can be beaten, Sigismund aims to defeat them by reviving the only thing that ever stood a chance against them in straight combat - the dragon race. Though he shares the weaknesses of other vampires, Sigismund always appears in a fog bank to avoid the sun's light. ==The Thieves== A series of seemingly pointless thefts swept through the camp, with these individuals apparently responsible. Their motives are unknown. ===Donovan=== Donovan is a powerful warrior who surrounds himself in a debilitating aura. Slain by the party, his last words seemed to indicate that he expected to return. The nature of his relationship with Joachim is uncertain, though he seems the more balanced and sensible of the pair. ===Joachim=== A body snatcher, Joachim also commands powerful psionics, and is quite definitely unhinged. ==Unaffiliated== ===Paraskevas=== Paraskevas is a kobold merchant whose small size belies a long life of adventure. He is one of very few merchants not affiliated with the Gilded Brothers, and also the only one who has set up shop in the camp. ===Barkeeper=== The barkeeper also owns the only inn in the camp. Her fiery temper is backed up by a rolling pin, though possibly not any combat experience. ===Warforged Bard=== The barkeeper's servant, the Warforged Bard is an early model, barely sapient version of the race. It was largely destroyed following Joachim and Donovan's raid on the inn. The party attempted to repair it using golem technology, but amputated it as soon as it appeared to start taking over. ===Ludvig=== Professor Ludvig Heintze is a fairly famous and very reclusive researcher holed up in a vast library in Appabaganna. A man looking a lot like him - but much, much younger and more adventurous - also uses that name. This Ludvig is a self-absorbed experimenter whose work put the camp in danger of a golem assemblage attack more than once. After being accosted by Sigismund, Ludvig leapt into an assemblage spawning portal, somehow managing to survive and gain a measure of control over the system.
