“An Elven World” Campaign Setting Five thousand years ago… Kaelin the Conqueror, King of the Elves and Bladeborn, inherited the throne. Our powerful and just ruler, with his ferocity and determination alone, rallied the Elves against the mundane races; greedy Gnomes, barbaric Dwarves, and above all the greatest evil of Humans. Amongst the animal races slain, our vast and mighty army also had slain the primal Orcs, and the filthy Goblins, among others, culminating with the killing of the final Dragon. With the death of our enemies, Kaelin the Bladeborn inherited the world. With his rule began a grand era of peace; the Age of the Elves. Five thousand years passed, and now we are capable of incredible wonders that the Elves of old could never begin to imagine. We have constructed a plethora of machines, from the automobile to the computer, and we live in a time of grand luxury for all. …That was, until the day of the Plague of Fire. By some means, the very seal of reality weakened. Grotesque fiends flooded the world. A great war was fought between the invading beasts and our armies, but we did not have the strength of old. We fended them off, in many places, but in several areas they proved far too much. They were too many. And now, our grand empires begin to crumble. Our people are slaughtered by the thousands. Our very world is dying. We must preserve our world- -At all cost. This is the reality you find yourself in. You are an elf, born of elves, and have only heard of the other races in twisted lore. Yours is a world full of impeccable technology, as though that of modern man’s, but far superior. Nearly gone are the ways of the sword, replaced by new weaponry and mighty firearms. However, as you may have gathered, fierce, destructive fiends now plague the world, threatening to consume all that remains of it. Your profession is of your choosing, and your subrace, as well. There are now entire regions ruled by superterrainian (above-ground) Drow, and by some impossible means, the drow and the elves live in peace. The ways of magic are not lost, although sorcerers are becoming more and more rare since Kaelin’s conquest (no dragons). Wizardry, particularly divination, is greatly encouraged, although necromancy has been ousted from society (they still exist in well-hidden enclaves). Many evokers carry great weight in society, from the summoning of massive power sources to executions. Read the other entries for further details.
