Distat Talents represent the unique skills and abilities of a character, whether gained through skill, race or external influence. There are six levels of talents in Distat, ranging from 1st level talents that someone could master in a few weeks of basic training to 6th level talents that are the envy of even the most ancient and powerful heroes and villains. A character must have spent enough stat points on lower level talents before being able to purchase higher level talents. Unless otherwise noted, a talent may only be purchased once. =====Talent Levels and Costs===== {|border=1px style = "margin: 0em 1em 1em 0em;" !Talent Level !!Stat Prerequisite !!Talent Cost |- |1st || - || 1 |- |2nd || 2 || 2 |- |3rd || 3 || 3 |- |4th || 5 || 4 |- |5th || 8 || 5 |- |6th || 13 || 6 |} A character's sum of talent costs, not stat points invested must meet the prerequisite number in order to purchase a higher-level talent. For example, a character with 13 stat points invested into Body but no purchased talents may not purchase a 6th level talent right away. Instead, he must spend the character points on lower-level talents until he has spent all 13 stat points, and then invest 6 more stat points into Body to purchase a 6th level talent, putting his total investiture in Body to 19. Some talents may have other talents or specific conditions as prerequisites. This will be indicated either by an indent (if of the same level) or by italics (if of a different level).<br> Stat points spent on Hidden talents increase the sum of talent costs for either stat, chosen by the player upon purchasing the talent. =====Types of Talents===== There are three types of talents: Body, Mind and Hidden.<br> Body talents represent feats of strength, speed or resilience, and are tied to the Body stat. Mind talents affect someone's willpower and cunning, and are tied to the Mind stat. Hidden talents are the most difficult to acquire, as they are tied to both Mind and Body: both stats must be at a certain level to qualify for these talents. General and Hidden talents use the character's higher effective stat to determine their effectiveness. Talents are also broken up into active and passive talents. Active talent require an opposed stat check against their target using the Effective Active Value of the stat that determines the talent's effectiveness. Some Active talents use the other stat: for example a Mind talent that casts death magic on someone might be opposed by the target's Body stat, not Mind. Using an Active talent counts as an action in combat. Passive talents are those that improve values, and don't require a check. Gaining the benefits of a Passive talent is never an action. =====Drawbacks===== Some characters may have restrictions on the use of their talents. These characters may take drawbacks: options that reduce the cost of a talent by one stat point.
