An entrapped creature can break out with a DC 28 Strength check, or other creatures may attempt to break off or melt the metal off of the encased creature. Any physical damage inflicted to the metal also damages the creature encased within for half damage. Energy damage inflicted to the metal also damages the creature encased within for equal damage. Determine the damage a creature encased receives after reducing damage from hardness. Spells or effects that specifically alter or melt metal but inflict no damage deal 1d8 points of damage per caster level of the originating effect to the encased creature. The damage is magic piercing and slashing if it shapes or manipulates metal, and is fire damage if it melts metal.
