Housecats are common... But not as common as humor about them. Surprisingly, however, give a Housecat a human-quality brain, and you have a very talented adventuring species. There are several ways this can happen - the Druid's ''reincarnation'' spell, a permanent ''polymorph'', or - most commonly - a joker deciding to use a permanent version of ''awaken animal'. ''Personality:'' It's a cat, only smarter. Devious, selfish, mixing mean and nice... Well, really, they have quite a range. But shiny things distract them a lot. ''Physical Description:'' Adult housecats range from as little as 5 pounds to as much as 50, with their length ranging from 8 to 30 inches. Their fur can be all manner of colors or patterns. ''Alignment:'' (THIS IS A JOKE) Always Chaotic Evil. (THIS IS SERIOUS) Cats can be of almost any alignment, but true Good is relatively rare among them. ''Religion:'' Any. ''Language:'' If awakened by a specific creature, the Awakened Housecat has the same list of languages as that creature, plus Cat as an automatic language. === Player Character Awakened Housecats === ''This list includes all modifiers borne of size!'' * ''Dexterity +4, Wisdeom +2, Strength -6:'' No one will fault a cat for being weaker than a human (it's much smaller after all), nor their extreme dexterity borne of natural muscle control. * ''Tiny Size:'' Cats are tiny, and thus ''very'' hard to hit (+2 to AC). * ''Speed:'' A Cat's four-legged structure allows it to move startlingly quickly for its size, with a base movement speed of 40 feet. * ''Keen Hearing:'' Nekomimi ears aren't just for looks - they have superior hearing to most beings. +2 to Awareness checks where hearing could help - no matter how subtly. * ''Flexibility:'' Cats don't have a lot of weight to pull around - combined with a strong muscle structure, they have a +4 to indirectly opposed/unopposed Athletics checks, and all Acrobatics checks. * ''Sneakiness:'' No one notices cats unless the cat ''wants'' to be noticed - it has an inherent +4 to Stealth checks. ** ''Sneaky Tricks:'' Cats know how to USE their stealth in battle. Against an enemy that is flanked, flat-footed, or under attack by more than two creatures besides the cat, the cat can deal +1d4 damage per attack. * ''Claws:'' Cats have claws (unless declawed), which deal 1d2 damage. * ''Limited Manipulation Workarounds:'' Cats lack opposable thumbs, and thus cannot hold a weapon unless it is adapted for them. (Their mouth structure makes even holding many kinds of object in their teeth impractical). To this end, intelligent housecats have to develop various workarounds, by class. This is partially DM's fiat, but the general rule is, ''if lacking oppoosable thumbs would critically prevent the use of class abilities, a reasonable workaround can be developed, though it may involve some inconvenience or cost''. Examples: ** A cat that wishes to use ranged weapons can mount a crossbow or even gun on its back, connected to a paw-manipulable mechanism. (Reloading requires assistance, auto-reload enchantments, or quite a bit of time.) Typically, this will mean a hand or light crossbow, or equivalently-effective gun. ** Somatic components for spells or psionic powers can be redeveloped as simple, shuffle-like dances, or simply ignored completely (the "Somatic" component being ** Particularly detailed manipulations may require enchanted gloves and a carefully-constructed support or chair (since a cat's structure makes standing up for any length of time annoyingly difficult). : In general, an awakened housecat's best friend is someone good with quick woodworking who can quickly improvise a solution to a situation the cat is presented with - particularly combined with a quick-thinking player or players. : Sometimes, this will result in things like a cat's armor also being a bludgeoning weapon - add the cost of the armor to the cost of the weapon, and roll with it. * ''Feat Options'': A Cat counts as a Goblin for the purposes of feats available to it. * ''Favored Class'': Any it can figure out the right Workarounds for. An Awakened Housecat counts its highest-level class as a favored class.
