Spells

An arcane shaman's spells must be bound to him from the plane of magic by his familiar. Once bound, the spell can be cast much like a sorcerer and stays as a 'spell known', using the arcane shaman's spell known slot for a number of hours depending on if the spell was arcane or divine in origin. An arcane shaman's familiar can bind any spell on the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list as well as spells from his chosen cleric domain.

To learn to cast a spell, an arcane shaman must have a charisma score equal to 10 + the spell level. The difficulty class for a saving throw against an arcane shaman's spell is 10 + their cha modifier + the spell level.

Like other Spellcasters, an arcane shaman can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Charisma score.

An arcane shaman only knows a limited number of spells, similar to a sorcerer, with the exception being their spells known are bound to them by their familiar, allowing them to change the spells they know each day. In order to bind a spell in to a spell known slot, an arcane shaman must send out their familiar for the desired spell. For a spell from the sorcerer/wizard list, this takes 1 + (level of desired spell / 2) rounds (rounded up) for the familiar to return with the spell. For a spell from the chosen domain, this takes 1 + (level of desired spell / 2) hours (this may be divided in to half hours) for the familiar to return with the spell. Once the familiar is sent out to retrieve the spell, it can not be recalled and is gone for the duration of the search.

Metamagic

If an arcane shaman knows any metamagic feats, he applies them to his spells when he binds them and places them in the higher level known spell slot. Unlike a sorcerer, this does not increase the casting time of the spell. The arcane shaman can not choose to alter this selection once the spell is bound, however, they may decide to bind both a version of the spell with the metamagic applied and a version of the spell without the metamagic applied, or in any combination, if they choose.

Domain Spell

At 2nd level an arcane shaman he may choose a single cleric domain to obtain spells from, as described in the spells section. The arcane shaman only gains the benefit of being able to cast 1st level spells from this domain and not the domain ability itself. Once chosen, this domain can not be changed. Spells obtained this way are of an arcane source still, and do not count as divine spells for any purpose.

At 4th level, and every even level after, the arcane shaman gains the ability to cast the next level of spells from the chosen domain. Levels in a prestige class or other sources which would advance spellcasting levels does not advance which level of domain spells an arcane shaman can cast.

Hastened Binding

Upon obtaining 19th level, an arcane shaman's required time to bind a standard spell is reduced by 2 rounds, to a minimum of 1 round of binding time, and their required time to bind a domain spell is reduced by 2 hours, to a minimum of 10 minutes of binding time.

Extra Domain

At 20th level, an arcane shaman gains an additional domain he may bind his spells from. This additional domain is still under the same restrictions as his first domain, though he gains the ability to bind all spell levels of this second domain immediately.
