He appears as a two-faced, androgynous humanoid in red and white robes, carrying a torch in one of his many hands and a rose in another. When Agni first came into being, he was the most arrogant of Evil Gods, running rampant over the material plane and threatening to consume everything in his path. [[Raghnialt]], Queen of Air and Darkness, stopped Agni from destroying what she considered HER world and imprisoned him on the bleak eternity of Gehenna, where he languished for 100 years, cut off from his followers and the world of Marranarch. During his imprisonment, Raghnialts' daughter, a sorceress of terrible power and beauty, cared for him and learned from him, and in time the rogue God fell in love with her - a love the mortal mage returned. At the end of 100 years, Agni's need to escape Gehenna grew into a burning rage, and in his fury his fire and power grew. He burst from his imprisonment and sought to strike down Wee Jas herself, but her daughter, a mere mortal, stood in the way. In his terrible anger, Agni did not know her, and he struck her down with fury and hatred. Only when Raghnialt laid her cool hand on his head did Agni realize what he had done, and he wept in sorrow. In grief, he begged the older deity to use her power to restore her daughter, but three times Raghnialt rebuffed him. Finally, he swore a mighty oath to make right all he had destroyed, to honor Raghnialt by bringing knowledge to the world, and to use his mighty power to bring balance to the circle of life, if only Raghnialt would return his lover to life. Raghnialt chose not to return her daughter to the realm of the living, but she fused her daughter's soul with the fire god, and the two disparate beings became one deity. == Dogma == His worshippers cherish different aspects depending on thier own alignment extremes - lawful worshippers admire his devotion to knowledge, chaotic followers praise his adaptability. Evil flames revel in fire's destruction, while good Firelighters remember that fire brings a renewed hope of life. The most devoted of followers, regardless of alignment, remember ALL of Agni's aspects, and seek to bring that balance to all things even as they pursue thier own goals. Agni loves knowledge and hates the undead, and instructs his followers to do the same. Clerics of Agni always turn or destroy undead; even evil clerics do not rebuke or command them. (Evil clerics spontaneously cast spells from one of thier domains, chosen at character creation, and do not channel negative energy). == Clergy and Temples == Agni has relatively few clerics. Since most of his original clerics died when Raghnialt cut him off from his power, Agni prefers to teach his followers to find divine power within themselves as mystics. That way, if he is ever again cut off from them or killed, his followers can continue his holy mission without him. Druids, who also channel divine powers, are sometimes drawn to Agni as a primal force of nature, and ultimately make the most sincere followers. Clerics and Mystics of Agni preside at tournements, teach at universities, and are known crusaders against the undead. Temples to Agni are usually simple stone buildings with a simple hearth and a floor of black sand. They are always warm, and are protected by ancient accords known as the ''Pax Ignus'' - any creature who starts a fight inside a temple suffers 1d6 fire damage each round until they leave the temple. As a standard action, he can perceive anything within eleven miles of his worshippers, holy sites, objects, or any location where one of his titles or name was spoken in the last hour.
